First Week Summary:
I am an intended Communication and Digital Studies major, so I have been looking forward to this class since I registered. After the first emails, and seeing the first week of assignments, I was a little apprehensive, and even had some anxiety about getting everything done in time between my work responsibilities and other classwork. Once I started following step by step (and listening to rain soundscapes), it all felt much more manageable. The hardest part of making all the social media accounts and blog was probably the creative aspect. I can be meticulous and obsessive about how I present myself online, even in my personal accounts not related to this class. It fascinates me how much I find myself editing the slightest details: tailoring images, spacing out my Instagram posts, checking punctuation (or purposeful lack thereof) in tweets. This class is already making me more confident of what I create in the digital space. I want to be proud of everything I make, because our creations are a reflection of us.
On a more technical note, I am in love with navigating website creation and WordPress. As someone hoping to go into a field of social media management and digital marketing, it feels like such a valuable tool. I have a lot of experience with social media, but I haven’t ever had a real domain. It has been enlightening. I also really enjoyed making a Soundcloud account, which I hadn’t had before, and exploring that platform. With every moment I spent working on this, my apprehension melted to excitement. The coming weeks pose many challenges. Like the heroes we may discuss in the coming weeks as a part of the legendary #ds106, I’ll face each one, learn a lot along the way, and hopefully… emerge triumphant.
